HomeMy WebLinkAboutVisitor Services and Information Advisory Committee Minutes April 12, 2011_201402041407556915Minutes of Visitor Services Advisory Committee Thursday, April 21, 2011 Public Safety Facility – Training Room In attendance: Kate Hamilton, Director, David Sharpe, Office Administrator, Charles Balas, Vice-Chairman, Diane Reis-Flaherty and Louise Swift. Gene Mahon and Linda Williams absent Charles called the meeting to order at 4:05pm. David updated the committee on the March statistics. He also noted that there have been a lot of people stopping in the office this week because it is school vacation week. Louise noted that many stores are not yet open for the season. The committee also discussed the new restaurants that are opening up. This includes Pazzo an Italian style which replaces Sfoglia and is owned by the same people who run LoLa 41. There are 2 more Italian style restaurants opening, Ventuno and Fusaro’s as well as Mark-Et which replaces Daily Breads. The Budget and Room’s Tax were the next items on the agenda. Kate also reported that Town Administration wants Visitor Services to be involved with Park and Recreation activities by shadowing Jimmy Manchester. He is still the administrator and in charge of all activities although he now under the DPW Department. Charles asked for approval to speak with Libby Gibson regarding the restrooms which was approved by the Committee The next item discussed was the Restaurant Association. Kate reported that the last meeting was held in October when 50 people showed up. Fireworks and T-Shirts was the sixth item on the agenda. Kate reported to the committee that there was enough money raised to have fireworks for two years. An anonymous donator has offered to pay for this years actual fireworks show. Kate also noted that we are still selling T-shirts and the sales will be picking up as we move into the season. Staffing was the next item discussed on the agenda. Kate reported that the Town has informed her that some people who had been laid off by the Town may “bump” our staff. She also noted that there seems to be a lot of interest in the Information Aide positions that were advertised in the paper. New Business was the last item on the agenda. Kate reported that the Office is now using a white board to offer a general Travel Tip of the Week. Many of these suggestions come from the Staff. We will continue to use Twitter. Charles adjourned the meeting at 4:45pm.
