HomeMy WebLinkAboutVisitor Services and Information Advisory Committee Minutes June 9, 2011_201402041407594415Minutes of Visitor Services Advisory Committee Thursday, June 9, 2011 Land Bank Conference Room In attendance: Kate Hamilton, Director, David Sharpe, Office Administrator, Charles Balas, Vice-Chairman, Diane Reis-Flaherty and Louise Swift. Gene Mahon and Linda Williams absent Charles called the meeting to order at 3:13pm. David updated the committee on the May statistics. David noted that the numbers were down due to the weather. The next item on the agenda was the Wine Festival. The committee discussed that possibility that the festival was getting too expensive and that less new customers were attending. Fourth of July Activities were the next items on the agenda. Kate reported that she met with Jimmy Manchester about the Main Street Activities and Children’s Beach games. She explained that Visitor Services is not coordinating the events but will support and promote them. Kate showed the committee the new 4th of July brochure. 5000 will be printed. This brochure lists all Town sponsored events on the 4th of July. This includes the Main Street Activities, Children’s Beach games and the Fireworks. The brochure also includes the list of financial donators, restroom locations, important phone numbers, etc...Kate explained that the brochure will be available at the office and can also be downloaded from the website. Kate also noted that a press release about the brochure will be included in the newspaper. The 7th item on the agenda was Fireworks T-Shirts and Farmer’s Market. Kate reported that the Fireworks T-Shirts are selling well. They will also be sold at the next 4 Farmer’s Markets thru July 3rd. Mae Taylor will be selling them at the Market. New Business was the last item on the agenda. Kate reported that the office is starting the new suggest for the public of the Tip of the Week. A whiteboard has been installed and the office will promote an event or idea during the week. Kate also reported that the 25 Federal Street restrooms will be open until 10pm starting Memorial Day Weekend. Selectmen Bobby DaCosta asked Kate to do this to better help our tourists.. Kate also reported that she was on the local NPR radio Station recently. Kate, Wendy Norcross of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and Laura Reckford of Fodors were interviewed by Mindy Todd regarding how summer season is looking and what new trends are happening in tourism for the Cape and Islands. 4:03pm, Gene Mahon arrived. 2 Kate brought Gene up to date on the agenda. Gene reported that Nantucket Nectars founder, Tom Scott is starting the Nantucket Project. It will be a 3 day Think Tank gathering at the end of September at the White Elephant hotel. It is expected to bring a large group of wealthy and influential people. The meeting was adjourned at 4:19pm
