HomeMy WebLinkAboutVisitor Services and Information Advisory Committee Minutes January 20, 2011_201402041407585977Minutes of Visitor Services Advisory Committee Wednesday, January 20, 2011 Land Bank Conference Room In attendance: Kate Hamilton, Director, David Sharpe, Office Administrator, Gene Mahon, Chairman, Diane Reis-Flaherty and Louise Swift Gene called the meeting to order at 3:05pm. The first item on the agenda was the monthly update. David read the figures for the month of November. The budget was the second item on the agenda. Kate reported that it is status quo. Linda Williams arrived at 3:10pm. Fireworks Plan and Update was next on the agenda. Kate reported that she met with Chamber Director PJ Martin-Smith. At this time, PJ expressed that they Chamber has gotten very busy with other Chamber responsibilities. She and Lawrel would not have much time to continue with this project. Kate noted that they had made a commitment with a partnership with Visitor Services and she would like to see it through completion. The Chamber will send out a letter shortly stating that the deadline is January 31 for donations. It was reminded that PR Manager Lawrel Strauch needs to send to Visitor Services the updated list of donors on a weekly basis. Kate also stated that thank you letters to all donators will be written by Kate from her office, Town Administration including the Board of Selectmen and the Chamber. Kate also noted that she has contacted Phil Stambaugh from Cape Cod Five Bank. The bank was donating $500. The Committee further had discussion for funding the fireworks in years to come. That will be a future agenda item. Next on the agenda was the Travel and Lodging brochure. Kate reported that the Inquirer and Mirror newspaper ran her press release about the availability of the new T&L and that there have been people calling and coming in to pick up the booklet. The fifth item on the agenda was ReMain Nantucket. Kate reported she has been asked to go to a meeting with them on Friday at 9:30am. T-Shirts and Towels was the sixth item on the agenda. Kate showed the towels from E.S. Sports. Similar towels are sold at the U.S. Open tennis tournament each year for $75 or more. E.S. Sports suggested that we sell towels as a fireworks fundraiser. The committee thought that the towels were too expensive to sell. The next item on the agenda was the July 2nd, 2011 Farmer’s Market. Kate reported that police Chief Bill Pittman sent her an e-mail noting that the Farmer’s Market which is held every Saturday in the summer on Cambridge Street will be on East Chestnut Street due to the annual St. Mary’s church fair. East Chestnut Street is next to the Visitor Services office. Linda Williams expressed concern for handicap accessibility due to the cobblestones on the street. The eighth item on the agenda is Ethics Update. David asked the committee to follow thru on the forms and online test with on this annual update on ethics in government. Town meeting was the next item on the agenda. Kate reported that it begins on Monday, April 4. The last item on the agenda was New Business. Kate reported that she will be starting a blog on the Visitor Services webpage. Gene adjourned the meeting at 3:58pm.
