Meeting Minutes: Aug. 2, 2010
Town Building
Present: Steve, Cormac, Morgan & Dylan
Absent: Ray, John, Karen
Vote to approve minutes. Morgan votes to accept 2/1/2010 minutes and Steve
seconds, all in favor.
Recruiting more members:
a. Amy Zelinski? – Steve thinks we should have someone with more ties to
Nantucket.
b. Cormac’s tenor is up and he is relinquishing his seat.
c. Karen Allence is also resigning sometime this year.
Survey
a. Include all people who are on the 61A Tax list. Karen sent this information to
Morgan
b. Morgan contacted I&M and our survey announcement appeared in this weeks
(Aug. 27th) newspaper.
c. Our goal in announcing the survey is to reach a broader community. We would
also like more public participation in meetings.
d. Commission went over survey to make sure it was complete.
e. Morgan added questions about animal husbandry and Sustainable Agricultural
upon request of the Commission.
f. Survey went out via email on Aug. 27th, 2010.
Right to Farm Bill:
a. Morgan asks why we don’t have one?
b. Cormac believes that the bill might be redundant.
c. Morgan to investigate.
Farm Truck Excise Tax
a. Steve Slosek asks if we can petition the town to eliminate the Tax.
b. He says Sherborn, MA has done just that.
c. Karen has contacted the MA Farm Bureau, and they said anyone in the state of MA
with farm plates can submit a state form to the town assessor's office. The town is
then required to refund all of the paid excise tax. Therefore, Nantucket should
already have this service.
