Town of Nantucket
Streets & Sidewalks Advisory Committee
Meeting Notes
Meeting of June 11, 2009
9:00 AM
2 FG
Committee members in attendance: Atherton, Roggeveen, Young, Coffin,
Oktay, Rowland, Willett, Lowell, and Gardner. Others: Wagley
With a few edits agreed upon, the Committee moved, with all members
present voting in the affirmative, to send the report to the BOS and further to
arrange for a time when the members could attend and share in the
presentation to the BOS.
Mr. Wagley stated his general concern that one of the goals of the
Committee should be to eliminate parking on sidewalks. The members
generally felt this required a detailed analysis of each street. Given the fact
that some streets were simply too narrow and parking is very limited, losing
parking spaces is difficult and not subject to a broadly stated goal. He also
believes the Town should adopt a policy that over time, and as
reconstruction gives an opportunity, would require all sidewalks be done in
brick. Again the Committee felt this should be done on a street by street
basis.
The discussion emphasized that the recommendations of this committee
were advisory only and the next steps suggested in the report will require
action by the Planning Board and the Board of Selectmen.
Note taker,
Rick Atherton
