Others: Wagley, Willauer Jeff Willett explained that the old concrete curbs (about 200 feet) on Liberty were replaced with new granite curbs. He explained that the DPW policy is to use old curbs if available and any old curbs that are not used will be kept in the DPW inventory. Jeff will arrange for the edges of the curb to be rounded or beveled to make them less sharp. He further indicated that the sidewalk bricks from Main Street are being reused on Liberty Street. Mr. Wagley requested that the report leave open the option to consider recovering cobles or replacing asphalt with paver brick. Mr. Lowell will check with the Planning Department to see what happened to the old curbs around the Harbor House. Mr. Rowland commented, and the Committee concurred, that all street crossing should be ADA compliant. The chart (attached to these notes) of recommendations for sewer phase II-B was discussed and approved by all members present and with some edits will go to the BOS next week. Note taker, Rick Atherton Streets Sidewalks Advisory Committee Recommendations for Phase II-B Road SurfacingCurrent SurfaceNew SurfaceCommentsAcademy LaneCobble/AsphaltSameWas paved and the asphalt on the lower section of the road was removed down to the cobbles. Change the concrete in the middle section to cobbles. Add a differentiating strip to the south side of the upper portion to make a visual break between the street and the houses.Ash LaneAsphaltSameAsh StreetCobbleSameBroad Street/LowerAsphaltSameBroad Street/MiddleAsphaltSameBroad Street/UpperAsphaltSameNot wide enough for angle parking. Town should pay for some demarcation between upper and middle at the Federal intersection. We note storm water is being installed. Center StreetAsphaltSameDiscussed changing from asphalt to cobbles but because this is a bike route, it needs to be smooth and thus no change is recommended.Chestnut Street/LowerCobbleSameChestnut Street/UpperAsphaltSameHussey StreetAsphaltSameRedo like Liberty Street with improved sidewalks. Redo the sidewalks. There will be some cost to redo curbs and sidewalks. India Street/LowerCobbleSameIndia Street/MiddleCobble/AsphaltSameNo change in crosswalks for the loading zone which is to left as is. Should not change the sidewalks for the loading problems. Handicapped review is necessary. India Street/UpperAsphaltSameWidth problem means curbs need to be set low to allow parking on the sidewalk, but with enough height to signify the demarcation between the street and the sidewalk. The sidewalks need to be reinforced to hold the cars. Fire hydrants need to be on the side with the parking.North Water StreetBelgian BlockRefer to BOSThe Belgian block was installed in 1914 and paved over at some time and then paving was removed in the 70s. Refer to the BOS to consider a possible alteration to paver brick for resurfacing.Quince StreetAsphaltRefer to BOSRefer to BOS for consideration of removing the sidewalk from one side or lower curbs or some other configuration. South Water StreetCobble/AsphaltSameRemove the brick cross walks on the north near the Town Building and make them painted. The other walks to be like main street.Whaler's LaneAsphaltSameCould be cobbled, but may not be torn up, so it will stay the same.Approved by the SSAC on May 1, 2009 (Attending: Atherton, Kopko, D.
