1.Approve minutes from September 11, 2014 meeting- John Motions Patty
Seconds, All in favor
2.On-going discussion:
a.Review Letter to BOS: Campbell: has sent to Erica
b.Review current regulation regarding keeping of animals
i.List pros and cons of current regulations: Campbell found Board of
Health has already drafted new reg’s. Looked over new more stringent
regulations. Group feels they are more complete but needs input from our
group to change some of the details. Especially about manure piles and
setbacks. Maybe a grandfather clause and simpler reg’s for small amounts
of backyard poultry.
ii.decide if updating the regulation is needed and appropriate if so list goals
of rewriting and updating the regulation & form a work group to create
rough draft: We decided to go through and do a first draft of our
suggested changes in the meeting, Campbell will meet with Richard Ray
to discuss. We need to address current issues around roosters etc but not
limit people's ability to keep animals within reason.
3.Open Discussion- Working with Massachusetts Agriculture department- Michelle has
contacted them and they are coming to meet with us in the spring. Campbell gives notice
of resignation as chairman of the Agricultural commission as of 4/9/15.
4.discuss future objectives- To find a new chairman, meet with Richard Ray and Mass dept
of ag representative.
5.set agenda for next meeting:
a.Vote on minutes from 1/8/15
b.on-going discussion:
i.review response from Mass dept of agriculture
ii.review response from health department regarding the keeping of animals
iii.discuss response from Dylan Wallace RE- proposed updates
iv.Q= contacting other livestock owners for feedback?? If so discuss format
and approach
