HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-12-19Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board Tuesday, December 19, 2017 Community Room, 4 Fairgrounds Road Members Present: Lowell, Gullicksen, Lipuma & McClure Members Absent: Blount, Brace & Kuntz Staff Present: Carlson Public Present: None CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order @, 5:01 PM APPROVAL OF AGENDA Unanimously approved. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Changes were noted, but approval deferred until the Board Secretary is present. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT The Town has obtained a Court Order for the removal of the M/V Nautical Lady. MARINE DEPARTMENT REPORT None - no staff present. NATURAL RESOURCES REPORT Mr. Carlson reported on the commercial scallop season. First red flag day the previous week, but catch is good and quality is good; first catch reports due December 19th; there are 20-30 boats out and 2-5 divers;clean-up of the hatchery is nearly complete and ready for spring; the Children's Beach boat ramp should be finished by the end of January; he will be attending an off -island conference and preparing for update of the Harbor Plan which expires in 2018; Mr. Carlson responded to questions relating to apprenticeship re- quirements for new commercial licenses from Member Lowell and questions relating to cruise boats anchoring in harbor and seeding of quahogs from Member Lipuma. Mr. Carl- son left the meeting at 5:50 PM. PUBLIC COMMENT ON MARINE DEPARTMENT / NATURAL RESOURCES RE- PORTS None OLD BUSINESS The Chairman distributed copies of email from Greg Tivnan regarding recording of meet- ings by NCTV which is available to the Board without cost to it. Discussion of commercial fishing survival was deferred. NEW BUSINESS Member McClure provided update on activities of the DOB Fertilizer Committee. There was a general discussion of the pros and cons of permanent moorings and Member McClure discussed his telephone conference with the Harbor Master in Marion, MA.
