HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-4-18Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board Tuesday, April 18, 2017 Community Room, 4 Fairgrounds Road Members Present: Brace, Blount, Kuntz, Lipuma, McClure Members Absent: Gullicksen, Lowell Staff Present: None Public: 2 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order @ 5:20 PM AP__PROVAL_OF AGENDA Unanimously approved APPROVAL OF MINUTES The April 4th minutes were not ready 1 �Z C� • _� CHAIRMAN'S REPORT Election of Officers - Postponed because all Members were not present May 16 Meeting - will find another room because Community Room not available 2017/2018 Goals and Objectives - Prepare for next meeting MARINE DEPARTMENT REPORT None NATURAL RESOURCES REPORT None PUBLIC COMMENT ON MARINE DEPARTMENT/ NATURAL RESOURCES REPORTS None OLD BUSINESS Green Crabs - Chairman will have draft letter for next meeting Eelgrass - discussion continued NEW BUSINESS Nomination of HSAB representative for Grey Water Committee (when formed) - Upon motion duly made and seconded Joe Lipuma was unanimously chosen. PUBLIC QUESTIONS AND COMMENT Carl Sjorlund and Bruce Cowan were present and made several comments. 1. Both objected to proposed work requirement for commercial scallopers because too difficult to administer; they prefer use of catch limit pass for extra bushel per hour worked but only when boat, equipment and gas are used. only one extra bushel should be permitted for any day. 2. Both agreed that bounty was needed to reduce Green Crab population because they eat roots of eelgrass and devastate soft -shell clam population. Joe Lipuma commented that there was information on line on NOAA website.
