Mr. Bergendahl advised the Board that the purpose of the.meeting was to ~iscuss the telephone system as the Office of the Boar~ of Selectmen has been receiving numerous complaints during the past few weeks. Ms. Jackson stated that the complaints' focus around several departments requesti private 24-hour lines with unlimited access. It was noted that if each departmei is given such access, the Town will, once again, have several different phone' systems as opposed to one system. Ms. Jackson also advised the Board that Mr. Bob Walsh, of Nantucket Telephone,--has provided the Town with the temporary use of a recording system, which provides a daily print-out of out-going calls, Itracking them by time the calls were placed, extension number of origination, i~umber called, length of call, and cost of call. Mr..-Walsh has given the Town access to the printer for one week to determine its need, and if the system is the one desired. He will provide the Town with a written estimate of the cost. The Board expressed its full support for acquiring the system. Mr. Grossman then requested that a record b'e kept tracking the incoming calls, to determine which departments receive the most calls each day, and that this, ulong with a listing of needs and/or requests be provided to a consultant who ~ay be able to assist in simplifying the present system. Members r~qUested that this systemwide analysis be completed with th~ least cost and that it proceed in a timely manner.
