At a Public Hearing of the ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS held at
1:00 P.M., Friday, July 26, 1991, in the Town and County
Building, Broad Street, Nantucket, Massachusetts, on the
Application of PACIFIC NATIONAL BANK, owner, of 61 Main Street,
Nantucket, Mass. 02554, and JOANNE THOMPSON (KANIA), contract
purchaser, of P. O. Box 2305, Nantucket, Mass. 02554, Board of
Appeals File No. 047 -91, the Board made the following DECISION:
1. Applicant is seeking a Special Permit pursuant to §139 -
7D(3) under §139 -30A to operate a public stable, which is a
special permit use in all districts. Applicant intends to stable
eight (8) horses on 5.52+ acres, and some of the horses will be
owned by other people who will pay rent for the stabling. Horses
will not be offered for hire.
2. Our decision is based upon the application and documents
submitted therewith, the testimony and evidence presented at the
hearing, two letters in support from abutters, and a favorable
recommendation from the Planning Board.
3. The applicant explained the plan for the stable as one in
which she would keep a couple of her own horses and lease space
to other horse owners in the vacant stalls. The horses would not
be offered for hire, only the stabling space, although other
people, such as trainers or riding students, might ride the
horses on occasion. Manure would be composted or removed
regularly from the site.
