NOTICE
A public hearing of the Board of Appeals will be held
on Friday, September 15, 1989, at 1:00 P.M. in the Town
and County Building, Nantucket, on the Application of:
WILLIAM (PETE) R. GILES and PATRICIA A. GILES
Board of Appeals File No. 0q-89
seeking a reversal of the August 15, 1989 decision of the
acting Building Commissioner denying Applicants a building
permit for a 12' x 13.5' one -story addition in place of
the southeasterly corner of an existing deck across the
rear of their principal dwelling, the denial being based
on the resulting loss of front -to -rear spacing between
that dwelling and their garage apartment, now spaced about
11' with 12' required by Section 139 -7A(3) for detached
garage apartments. Alternatively, Applicants seek a
variance from that Section to allow such addition without
any front -to -rear spacing.
The premises are at 6 Hull Lane, Assessor's Parcel 67 -277,
Lot 8 at Page 4 of Plan Book 17, zoned Residential -10.

ADDENDUM TO BOARD OF APPEALS APPLICATION
Giles - 6 Hull Lane
Reversal of Building Inspector's August 15, 1989 denial of
building permit (lack of 12' separation between principal
dwelling and garage apartment under 139- 7(3)(a)) for 12' X 13.5'
addition to princip0al dwelling on the grounds that the 12'
separation would not apply here where the Certificate of
Occupancy issued for the garage apartment in 1987 was based on
the fact that the garage is connected to the principal dwelling
under 139-7(3)(b).
Alternatively, issuance of variance from the 12' separation
requirement of 139- 7(3)(a) to permit the 12' X 13.5' addition to
the principal dwelling to be used as a utility room on the
grounds that the placement, size and intended use of the
addition, as it relates to the layout of structures on the lot
does not affect, generally, the zoning district and if not
allowed would involve a substantial detriment to Mr. Giles, one
of the petitioners, due to a physical ailment that eventually
will limit his mobility on stairways.
