2. ACNVT Chair Howard Blitman called the meeting to r*d&t rn

3. Prospective ACNVT member Steve Meader, a guest a Roger
Ernst and descendant of a Nantucket whaling family, introduced
himself.
4. Chair Howard Blitman reported on his favorable experience at the
2012 Annual Town Meeting in April, representing nonvoting
taxpayers but not speaking at the meeting. He thought the
Moderator's introduction and his being seated in the front row
added to public awareness of ACNVT. Jay Strauss also attended,
seated with nonvoters, and expressed a very favorable impression
of debate at the ATM.
5. ACNVT members continuing for a new 3-year term need to be
formally sworn in by the Town Clerk after their appointment by
the Town Manager.
6. Roger Ernst spoke with approval of the Town's recent initiative to
encourage volunteers (see Town Manager's Newsletter of 6/21/12)
and undertook to follow up with Ann Medina.
7. Howard Blitman suggested that the ACNVT invite a speaker for a
future meeting to talk about algae and other threats to pond health.
He reported that the Maria Mitchell Association had completed the
exchange of Washington Street properties with the Land Bank.
8. Question was raised about keeping the Town's ACNVT webpage
current, also about seeking I&M interest in ACNVT.
9. The high price of gas for cars, boats and planes relative to
mainland pricing is a concern.
10.Lucas Fischer offered to followup on the possibility of putting
limits on clearcutting native vegetation.
11.Bill Sherman reported that the Nantucket Community Association
has agreed with Town Manager Libby Gibson on August 7th
from 9:30 to 11 a.m. for the 2012 Summer Forum. ACNVT is
expected to continue as cosponsor. Like last summer's Forum, the
proposed format envisions presentations by the Town Manager and
selectmen followed by —1 hour of Q&R.
12.For our next meeting, July 14th, Town Manager Libby Gibson will
be asked to speak, likely an update on Town issues such as
upgrading the sewer system. For the following meeting, July 28th,
Selectman Bruce Miller will be asked to share his thoughts on in-
town parking. Lucas Fischer expressed hope that evening hours for
unrestricted Core District parking would accommodate summer
resident interests.
