HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-11-19TOWN OF NANTUCKET BOARD OF HEALTH MINUTES —NOVEMBER 19, 2008 NANTUCKET SUPERIOR COURTROOM MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Kopko, Ms. Roggeveen, Mr. Chadwick, Mr. c Reinhard, and Mr. Atherton MEMBERS ABSENT: None. Chairman Kopko opens the meeting at 6:00 p.m. and asks for public comment/concerns. . None noted. ° AGENDA Minutes of September 24, 2008 approved unanimously. Variance Request 1. 37 -45 Cambridge St. — Repair of a failed system. This is a townhouse in Tristram's Landing with a shared system. The septic will be moved onto appropriate property (Madaket Land Trust — owners have secured an easement for this); 14 bedroom capacity; and HO Ray recommends approval of variance. BOH approves variance request unanimously. Other Business 2. HO Ray announces the second meeting on Lyme (Tick Informational Meeting) on either December 4th or 1 Ith. Ms. Rogeveen suggests December 4th at 4:30 due to availability of Dr. Sam Telford. HO Ray would like this to be a meeting where scientific comment is offered and will be in touch as to exact location of meeting. There is a grant available from USDA applied for by Dr. Telford — grant is utilized to fund local approaches on dealing with deer tick control issue. HO Ray reads BOH letter of support for this grant. BOH asks HO Ray to remove reference to deer hunting in this letter of support. BOH unanimously approves letter of support to Dr. Telford. Recognition of recent free flu clinic on October 18, 2008 from 8 -11 a.m. at NES. There were 299 people inoculated and this was a very successful clinic, as well as fulfilled Nantucket's emergency preparedness drill requirement. HO Ray publicly thanks Charlene Chadwick from Nantucket Cottage Hospital for her role. s • • BOARD OF HEALTH - MINUTES -2- November 19, 2008 Massachusetts DPH has received a financial blow in terms of vaccine receipt. HO Ray would like to offer a flu clinic next year based on vaccine availability. 4. Curtailment of rodenticide dissemination — Due to lack of funding, all departments have had to cut back financially. This is a costly program as well as a liability issue (control of placement is a concern). There is no more rat bait at the Health Department. Chairman Kopko asks about the discussion on forming a separate Board of Health. HO Ray tells BOH that NALBOH will be releasing a survey shortly that will highlight what's happening locally with BOH formation. HO Ray would like this survey to be reviewed as part of the discussion. Ms. Rogeveen and HO Ray have been approached by various community members who have expressed interest in sitting on the BOH. BOH adjourns at 6:33 p.m.
