Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m.

Chairman Kopko asks for any concerns from the public. None noted.
The BOH Minutes from August 27, 2008 approved 4 -1. Mr. Chadwick abstains from
vote.
Variance Request
1. 312 Madaket Rd. — This is an existing septic system. This is a replacement of a
cesspool to a legitimate septic system which meets maximum feasible
compliance. HO Ray recommends approval of this variance. BOH approves
variance requests unanimously.
2. 17 Massachusetts Ave. — This is a small lot, close to the harbor, which will utilize
a composting toilet, grey water leach facility with year round usage. HO Ray
recommends granting variance. BOH approves variance request unanimously.
3. 24 Massachusetts Ave. — This variance originally requested relief from property
lines, etc. which HO Ray suggested denial of this variance. His recommendation
would be to utilize a composting toilet and grey water system. The engineer has
resubmitted his variance request with the composting toilet/grey water system and
HO Ray recommends approval. BOH approves variance request with new plan
utilizing composting toilet and grey water system unanimously.
4. 10 Crows Nest Way — This is a septic repair of a system that did not meet ground
water separation. They want to utilize a tight tank. HO Ray recommends
granting variance request with a stipulation of seasonal use only (6 months). The
homeowner will be charged a sewer user fee. BOH approves variance request
unanimously.

Lyme Disease Discussion
HO Ray discusses tick borne disease as a public health issue. The BOH will discuss
methods to eliminate /reduce residents' exposure to ticks. HO Ray recommends public
hearings being held over a 2 -3 month time frame to discuss plans on the best course of
action for Nantucket to tackle this public health issue.
Ms. Roggeven would like to see the startup of meetings as soon as possible to give
seasonal residents a chance for input.
Mr. Reinhard asks for outside experts' help to discuss this issue at the public hearings.
HO Ray will invite speakers through DPH, etc.
BOH is adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
