AGENDA c, ' N v't BOH meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m. a Concerns from the public. None noted. Variance Request 24 Cambridge Street - This is an existing dwelling with 2 bedrooms and a 4 bedroom septic system in the ground. The owner proposes to build a 2nd dwelling with 2 bedrooms. They are asking for relief from the 150' Madaket well separation. HO Ray recommends granting this variance requiring the applicant to use an alternative design septic system with a maintenance agreement in place for the life of the system. Variance request approved unanimously (5 -0). 2. 6 Tennessee Ave — This is an undersized lot with existing dwelling and a failed well. The owner cannot meet the 150' separation requirement. Maximum feasible requirement has been met. HO Ray recommends approval of this variance request. Variance request approved unanimously (5 -0). 6 Tennessee Ave tight tank — local approval. This is a case where the original septic permit had expired before the applicant installed the septic system. During this time, the code changed. In the best interest of water quality a tight tank installation is suggested for both dwellings on the lot. DEP has given a five year window on the use of a tight tank and has mandated seasonal use only. Variance request approved unanimously (5 -0). BOARD OF HEALTH — TOWN OF NANTUCKET MINUTES — MAY 23, 2007 Update of Harbor Watershed Inspections Nantucket Harbor Watershed Inspections — There are 616 properties in this district. Of those, 257 have been inspected and 20 have failed inspection. Failures have been close to the harbor. 2. Madaket Harbor Watershed Inspections — There are 699 properties in this district. Of those, 51 have been inspected and 11 have failed. We anticipate a higher rate of failure in the Madaket area due to older septic systems and potential separation from groundwater issues. Health Department Update Please remember to check your property for any standing water and dump out to prevent mosquito breeding. Please call the DPW or the Health Department with mosquito complaints. Tick Borne Illness — The incidence is high. We are receiving many reports of Lyme Disease in our office. EEE and WNV — there are no reports of EEE yet in SE Massachusetts. The Health Department will be collecting dead raptor birds (crows, blue jays, and grackles) for the state to check for WNV over the next several months. Artell Crowley, Assistant Health Office, has recently passed the Sanitarian Exam and now is a CHO and a RS. BOH adjourned at 6:47 p.m. 2
