Variance Requests
1. 48 Meadowview Drive — Existing dwelling and septic system which is non -code
compliant. HO Ray recommends granting variance. BOH approves variance
request unanimously.
2. 31 Quaise Rd. — House and septic systems within Nantucket Harbor Watershed
Protection District. System in failure. Engineers proposed Geoflow System. HO
Ray is recommending denying the variance at this time due to state's estuary
project and installing a tight tank for a short period of time to allow the state's
TMDL figures to come in. DEP agrees with HO Ray and recommends pumping
agreement in place. BOH denies variance request and approves installation of
tight tank unanimously.
3. 12 Western Ave. — Existing dwelling and septic system. HO Ray recommends
granting variance to move well to dune and move leach facility to upper portion
of property. BOH grants variance request unanimously.
Concerns of Harbor Pollution from Boating Activities — HO Ray discusses previous two
weeks of marina testing and visual inspection of marina and does not note anything
irregular. Both bathing beaches on both sides of the marina have had low levels when
tested over the last several years. Ecoli was also tested and nothing irregular was found.
Updates on Weights and Measures Program — HO Ray discusses history of weights and
measures and the more recent licensing requirements for weights and measures
inspectors. Smaller communities, including Nantucket, are looking into county or state
testing contracts. HO Ray recommends adopting a new fee schedule similar to
Barnstable's and going with a state contract and would like to have options considered by
the BOH at a later date. BOH approves HO Ray's suggestion.
EEE and WNV — HO Ray updates BOH on mosquito illnesses found in the
Carver/Middleboro area. To date no cases of EEE mosquitoes have been found on
Nantucket and no spraying is anticipated at this time.
HO Ray announces that the Nantucket Community Association will meet at 7:00 p.m. on
9/13/06 at the Harbor House to discuss water quality issues and Mr. Ray and Mr.
Fronzuto will be attending.
