1. Carol Dunton – tick -borne disease ATM article; will reword to as for funding in 2013 in hopes of getting
$50,000 for BOH's study. MacNab – Board supports Dunton's on -going efforts.

V. PRESENTATION
A proposed local Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)

Representing Ray — It became evident, post Sept. 11, 2001, that Emergency Preparedness was not
as efficient as it should be. As a result, the medical reserve corps was developed to
assist in the event of an emergency.
Jean Rohmer, Coordinator Cape & Islands MRC — History of MRC and Cape Cod
MRC. Mission to pre -train and pre- credential volunteers to cover medical aspects of
emergency shelters, augment the American Red Cross, do prescription disposal
training, build community resiliency, and training. Offering Nantucket a pilot MRC
to establish level of interest for an independent MRC.

Discussion Ray — Would like to see the board approve a 6 -month trial period; at the end of that,
the Board can decide if it wants to have an independent MRC or remain part of the
Cape & Island. Recommend endorsement of 6 -month trial period.
Rohmer — MRC also does Tick -borne disease education.
Weld — What does the island have in place at present?
Ray — Island preparedness team, a small team that helps in the event of a disaster.
Action Motion to Approve starting the process.

V1. HEALTH DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Article 68 - Fertilizer Regulations update; joint meeting with the Board of Selectmen at regular BOH
Meeting of February 9th 4:00 in community meeting room: review ramifications of fertilizer regulations and
affect on the island.

Weld — Tick -borne Disease reporting of diseases by doctors and the hospital has not been consistent. MacNab —
Proposal to do an island -wide survey. Hospital wants full reimbursement for lab tests. Weld to meet with hospital
personnel and doctors.
