Called to order at 2:30 p.m. Staff in attendance: Richard Ray, Health Director; Artell Crowley, Assistant Health Officer; Terry Norton, Minutes Taker Attending Members: Malcolm MacNab, MD, PHD (vice /acting chair); James Cooper; Helene Weld, RN; Stephen Visco Absent Members: Patricia Roggeveen Agenda adopted by unanimous consent 1. Carol Dunton – tick -borne disease ATM article; will reword to as for funding in 2013 in hopes of getting $50,000 for BOH's study. MacNab – Board supports Dunton's on -going efforts. 11. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — December 22, 2011 Motion to Approve Ill. BOA111) ACTION Signatures for grant of Title Five Covenant and Easement for a shared system on at 2:4 Relief from Minimum Standards for Food Service Establishments Applicant wishes to provide the service of baked -on- premises potentially hazardous foods, from a continental breakfast kitchen. Sitting Cooper, Weld (acting chair), Visco Recused MacNab Documentation Representing Matthew Parker, Sea Street Inn Public Caron Dunton Discussion Crowley – Explanation of request and related regulations. Ray – Not recommending Board grant this variance. Concern is that granting this variance will set bad precedence. Action Motion to Deny variance request. PRESENTATION A proposed local Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Sitting MacNab, Cooper, Weld, Visco Recused None Documentation Representing Ray — It became evident, post Sept. 11, 2001, that Emergency Preparedness was not as efficient as it should be. As a result, the medical reserve corps was developed to assist in the event of an emergency. Jean Rohmer, Coordinator Cape & Islands MRC — History of MRC and Cape Cod MRC. Mission to pre -train and pre- credential volunteers to cover medical aspects of emergency shelters, augment the American Red Cross, do prescription disposal training, build community resiliency, and training. Offering Nantucket a pilot MRC to establish level of interest for an independent MRC. Public Carol Dunton Discussion Ray — Would like to see the board approve a 6 -month trial period; at the end of that, the Board can decide if it wants to have an independent MRC or remain part of the Cape & Island. Recommend endorsement of 6 -month trial period. Rohmer — MRC also does Tick -borne disease education. Weld — What does the island have in place at present? Ray — Island preparedness team, a small team that helps in the event of a disaster. Action Motion to Approve starting the process. Vote Unanimously V1. HEALTH DIRECTOR'S REPORT Article 68 - Fertilizer Regulations update; joint meeting with the Board of Selectmen at regular BOH Meeting of February 9th 4:00 in community meeting room: review ramifications of fertilizer regulations and affect on the island. VILCOMMISSIONERCOMMENTS Weld — Tick -borne Disease reporting of diseases by doctors and the hospital has not been consistent. MacNab — Proposal to do an island -wide survey.
