TOWN OF NANTUCKET
BOARD OF APPEALS
NANTUCKET, MASSACHUSETTS 02554
DECISION:
At a meeting of the Board of Appeals held at 1:30 p.m. Friday
April 27, 1984 in the Town and County Building, Nantucket, in the
matter of the Application of MARINE LUMBER CO, INC. (026-84), the
Board finds:
1. This is an Application for a Variance (Variance power)
Section 7(H) or, alternatively a Special Permit relief from Section
6(B) (Parking requirements) and Section 7(I) (expansion or alteration
of a pre-existing non-conforming use) of the Zoning By-Law. If
granted, the Applicant will expand the storage area available for
lumber and building materials. The present use does not conform
to parking requirements. The applicant now has 26 car parking and
proposes to increase the parking to 44 cars. If the by-law were
applied, a requirement of 76 cars would be in order. If the addi-
tional storage area is allowed, there will be a total of 11,120 sq.
ft. for a net gain of 4492 square feet over the existing covered
storage space. Ground cover is not an issue.
2. Based upon a review of the Application, supporting documents,
plans, testimony, letters and a viewing of the site, the Board finds
that the use of the premises as and for storage of building materials,
with the necessarily attendant expansion of the covered facilities
and improvements, would be in harmony with the general purposes and
intent of the Zoning By-Law. The Board also finds that relief, in-
eluding parking, should be conditioned upon the Applicant providing
-,,
a minimum of 44 car parking on site.
3. For the reasons and upon the conditions set forth, the
Board hereby GRANTS the Applicant relief from Section 6(8) 7(H)
and 7(I) of the Zoning By-Law by SPECIAL PERMIT, by UNANIMOUS vote.
