Decision:
At a meeting of the BOARD OF APPEALS held Wednesday,
December 17, 1980, at 3:30 P.M., in the To~m and County
Building, Nantucket, in the matter of the application of
KEVIN SHORE, et ux (047-80), after due deliberation,
the Board found:
1. This is an application to extend a non-conforming
use by adding a third dwelling unit to property at 31-
33 Pleasant Street in a district zoned Residential/Old
'Historic. The property does now contain a double dwel-
:1 ling house and the applicants seek to con'Tert a small
, barn to a third dwelling unit. The property was
., acquired in 1980 and has been used for rental purposes.
2. This property is located in a residential area on
a busy street where on-street parking poses a problem.
Most of the houses in this area are single-family
dwellings and an additional dwelling unit would increase
the population density and parking problems throughout
the year. Such a change would have an adverse effect
upon the neighborhood. This extension of the non-con-
forming use would be substantially more detrimental
than the existing non-conforming use to the neighborhood
and would afford no benefit to the general public.
3. For the reasons set forth, the application to extend
the non-conforminq use hy addition of a third dwelling
unit is denied by unanimous vote.
