1980, at 2:00 P.~". at the Town ani COunty Building, in the natter
of the application of SII:'NEY H. KII...U'N (042-80), after due deliber-
ation, the Eoard fOUI'rl:
1. This is an application for a Special Permit to operate a
restaurant and far a waiver of parking r~erents for a prcp:>sed
restaurant to be located on Old North l~f in a district zoned
Residential/Ccnmercia1. '.M1e AWlicant owns b<<:> small oottages at
the oorner of Old North l\1}1arf am Fasy fltreet, which he pr~ses
to connect ani convert to a leased restaurant operation far ~t
30 to 35 seats on a seasonal basis. '!here i.s no available roan
for on-site parJl"ing.
2. Old Narth l..'harf is a privately a.mm whari: containing many
fine hares an::1 sumner rental cotrages. It i.s primarily residential
in nature am is considered one of the rrost picturesaue areas of
i downtn-m Nantucket. Easy Street, despite its name, is a busy
! tOOroughfare carrying one-way traffic to the S~t Wharf.
There are no sidewalks in the area. During the S\.I11'!ler IOOnths, the
traffic am parking problems are manifest. Several existing
restaurants flCM operate within 300 feet of this prq:x:>sed location,
which contribute to the probleros of parking and off-loadinq sites.
None have yet been establishErl on old North Wharf.
3. The Board finds that due to the traffic flow, lack of parking
, spaces ani extrere CXJ't'ITWaJ:'ci.a1 density of this area, the aJdition
; of another restaurant at this site would re detrimental to the
entire neighbar.hocrl. Such an operation \<uuld not be in ha1.1IDI1Y
with, the general purt)OS€ and intent of the Zoning By-Law and \'.Ould
substantially be mxe detrimental to the neighborhood than the
present us~ of the prQ!?€rty.
4. For the reasons set forth, tPe application for a Special PerIT'it
