DECISION:
At a regular meeting of the Board of Appeals held
Friday, July 25, 1980, at 3:00 P.M., at the Town and
County Building, in the matter of the application of
NORMAN and JEFFREY SILBER (025-80), after due delibera-
tion, the Board found:
1. This is an application to extend a non-conform-
ing use by adding to a dwelling house on a lot having
insufficient area located at 17 Shell St., Siasconset,
and zoned Residential I. This property was acquired by
the applicants in 1976 by inheritance. It then contain-
ed a dilapitated dwelling house formerly used as the
Sconset Beauty Parlor. The lot contains only 1200 sq.
ft. of land. The proposed addition would be a one-room
addition to the building and would not even be visible
from the street. It would greatly improve the appear-
ance of the building and make the house more habitable.
2. This property is located in an area of many
undersized lots, and although the houses are close
together, they do not pose any problems of public
health, safety, or morals. The proposed addition would
tend to enhance rather than denegrate the neighborhood
and would be in keeping with the general policy of im-
proving the appearance of the area.
3. For the reasons given, the Board finds that
the proposed addition would not be more detrimental than
the existing use of the property and the extension may,
therefore, be allowed.
4. The application for extension of a non-conform-
ing use by adding to a dwelling house at 17 Shell Street
in Siasconset is unanimously approved in accordance
with the plans submitted to the Board.
