HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-05-10 11 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS The Minutes of the Meeting of May 10, 1990 at 4:30 PM. The meeting was held in the Selectmen's Hearing Room, Town & County Building, Nantucket, MA 02554. All members of the Board were present with the exception of Mr. Viera and Ms. Coombs. Chairman Grossman called the meeting to order at 4:34 PM. I IAPproval of the Minutes of April 18. 1990 at agreed unanimously to pass over the minutes. 7:30 PM. The Board Proposed Mosaui to Control Pro; ects Planned for the Spring. DPW Superintendent willett read his memo dated April 1, 1990 stating that manual cutting of the mosquito ditches is almost double the I cost of mechanical cutting. Mr. Borchert asked if the ditches jneeded to be brush cut 8 feet on both sides. Mr. Willett said it could probably be done on just one side. He stated that the property owners would be given 30 days notice to complete the ditch cleaning themselves, otherwise the DPW would utilize its own machinery to complete the job. Ms. Coombs joined the meeting at 4:36 PM. After further discussion, Chairman Grossman suggested a motion to authorize the DPW to go forward with the program. Mr. Borchert was opposed to the plan as he felt the problem was with salt marsh mosquitoes not freshwater mosquitoes. Ms. Coombs moved to authorize the DPW to go forward with the program as outlined by Mr. willett, with the understanding that as much money as possible would be held back for resolving the saltmarsh mosquitoe problem. Seconded by Ms. Sevrens. Mr. Borchert opposed the motion. So voted. 2 votes to 1. Reauest to Reduce pine Valley's Sewer Connection Fee. Mr. Willett said that the Sewer Project Advisory Committee recommended that pine Valley pay $500 connection fee rather than the $2,000 fee in accordance with the original agreement. Ms. Coombs asked why the fee should be reduced. Mr. Willett explained that it would ultimately be a savings for the Town. Mr. Gardner said he recalled that the Board voted on the committees recommendation, but it was not in the minutes. On the recommendation of the DPW superintendent and the SPAC's original vote, Ms. Coombs moved to reduce the sewer connection fee for pine Valley to $500.00. Seconded by Ms. Sevrens. So voted, unanimously. There being no further business before the Board of Public Works, the Board voted unanimously to adjourn at 5:05 PM, to reopen as the Board of Selectmen. ,/L...
