Members of the Board present were: Wayne Holmes, Nancy Sevrens, Arthur Desrocher, Carl Borchert and Timothy Madden. Chairman Holmes called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM. Request for Adoption of Policy Statement Reqardinq Food Service at Lodging Houses. Health Officer Richard Ray read a Policy Statement I which addressed the issue of full food service licensing of lodging houses and inns. Mr. Desrocher moved to adopt the policy; seconded by Mrs. Sevrens. So voted that the Nantucket Health Department, as a matter of policy, shall not issue a full food service establishment license without notification of a certificate of compliance for a commercial kitchen from the Nantucket Building Department. Following the adoption of this policy statement, Mr. Ray commented about the number of complaints and concerns he has received from the public about the resurgence of mosquitos on the island. Mr. Ray informed the Board that these were the freshwater variety rather than the saltwater mosquitoes which have been such a problem in the Madaket area. Mr. Ray urged the public to rid their properties of any standing water, as this would eliminate the larvae. Ann Balas, proprietress of the Anchor Inn, asked for a clarification on the issue regarding the policy Statement and Mr. Ray reaffirmed that an error had been made in issuing a food service permit to one particular inn but with the adoption of this policy, no food service establishment permit will henceforth be issued, unless a lodging house or inn has received a certificate of i compliance from the Building Department. Mr Roger Schmidt affirmed that it was the 18 Gardner Street Inn that was issued this license and that they are serving full breakfasts. Mr. Schmidt requested that his inn be exempted from the adoption of this policy and was told by Chairman Holmes to put his request for an exemption in writing, and it will be taken under consideration in due course by i the Board of Health. There being no further business before the Board, the meeting was unanimously adjourned at 7:40 PM.
