Meetinq with Health Officer Richard Ray and AIDS Network Coordinator Cheryl Bartlett to Discuss Public Health Issues. Mr. Ray recommended that the Board focus heavily on public health issues at this time as the community faces many different public health threats including Lyme Disease, Babesiosis, Tuberculosis and AIDS, as well as food service issues. He requested a part-time position be established to assist Public Health Advisor Cheryl Bartlett in order to help address these many issues. Discussion followed on this subj ect. Ms. Bartlett reiterated Mr. Ray's concern that the community faces many significant public health issues today. She suggested that the Board assume a leadership role in addressing these issues which include education and prevention. She added that she is often called out of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital and into the community to address public health issues and stated that she has little time to address other important public health concerns such as the lack of disease reporting procedures among the island medical establishment. Discussion followed regarding the nature and funding of the position. Mr. Holmes moved to support the establishment of the requested position; to investigate monies which might be available from the County for this purpose for the remainder of fiscal year 1992 and to initiate budgeting for this position for fiscal year 1993; seconded by Mrs. Sevrens. All in favor. So voted. There being no further business before the Board, it was unanimously voted to adjourn at 5:40 PM. Submitted this 2nd day of March, 1992. (.'~.~ ~ C.
