HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-02-21 I BOARD OF HEALTH The Minutes of the Meeting of February 21, 1990 at 7:30 PM. The meeting was held in the Selectmen's Hearing Room, Town & County Building, Nantucket, MA 02554. All members of the Board were present. Chairman Sevrens called the meeting to order at 7:29 PM. Approval of the Minutes of Februarv 7. 1990 at 7:30 PM; also of January 3. 1990 at 7:30 PM. Mr. Viera moved approval. Seconded by Mr. Grossman. So voted. The reading of the Minutes was waived. Enforcement of Harbor Pollution Laws: Discussion. Mr. Viera read Mr. Stephen Bender's letter dated February 13, 1990. Mr. Grossman asked if there had been policing of the policy. Mr. Richard Ray said that the Health Department did not have the time or manpower to do this. A discussion ensued about pollution in the Marina, pollution from fishing vessels, and boats on moorings. Mr. Grossman said these should be treated as separate issues. Ms. Coombs said they all fall under the same regulation. Health Inspector Ray said he did test the water in the marina and found the boats had no impact on elevated levels of coliform bacteria. Mr. Grossman suggested that Mr. Basset be notified that the Town holds First Winthrop responsible for compliances with the Town I s bylaw for boats in the boat basin. Mr. Steve Bender stated that no progress has been made in this area and questioned whether Mr. Ray was doing his job. Mr. Grossman moved to have a liaison meeting with the Health Inspector, the Marine Superintendent and representatives of SHAB within the next 3 weeks to discuss the problem of harbor pOllution. Seconded by Ms. Coombs. So voted. Variance Request from Plumbing Code 248 CMR 2.02(6) for Hanford I smith. Mr. Viera read Mr. Richard Ray's letter of February 20, 1990 recommending denial of the variance request as it was not within the spirit of the regulation. Mr. Viera moved denial of the request on Mr. Ray's recommendation. Seconded by Mr. Grossman. So voted. OTHER BUSINESS Regarding Mr. Bender's inquiry, Mr. Richard Ray stated that the I spraying of the orange chemical by First Winthrop is a herbicide that is sprayed during the spring and is not a threat to the marina! II unless it is directly sprayed into the water.
