The meeting Nantucket, called Request for Approval of Septic System for 6 Lot Subdivision off Pocomo Road: This business was tabled from July 12, 1989 pending information requested by the Board on maximum well depth as a possible stipulation before approving septic systems for subdivisions if it is legally within the Board's realm to do so. Mr. Bourgoin informed the Board that at this preliminary recommendation stage, the Board of Health does not have the authority to require additional stipulations such as relate to maximum well depth, however, when building is underway the Health Inspector could review this matter. Mr. Viera stated that the main concern was nitrate impact should the wells be too shallow and affect the integrity of the water. Mr. McLaughlin stated that a maximum well depth should be determined for the aquifer recharge zone. Health Inspector Ray stated that 4 feet is ,the state requirement and that 5 feet is the local requirment, further, he iexplained local regulations and added that greater distance does not necessarily mean less nitrate intrusion. Mr. Ray stated that each system will be reviewed ,on its own merits.
