HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989-07-12 II BOARD OF HEALTH/BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS The Minutes of the Meeting of Wednesday July 12, 1989 at 7:30 PM. The meeting took place in the Selectmen's Hearing Room, Town & County Building, Nantucket, MA 02554. All members of the Board were present. Chairman Sevrens called the meeting to order at 7:34 PM. ; Ms. Coombs moved approval of the Minutes of June 14, 1989 at 7:30 PM; seconded by Mr. Ramos. So voted. Reading of the minutes was waived. ~Amendment to the Sewer Service Connection Regulation: In a letter from the ISewer Tie-In Allocation Committee, the Board was requested to approve an emergency iamendment which would provide for a one year expiration date for Sewer Connection IPermits with extensions for cause. Executive Secretary Lee Bourgoin said that there was a public hearing scheduled for July 26, 1989 at 7:30 PM for the questi0n but he urged that it be approved immediately on an emergency basis so that :the present backlog could be processed in an orderly fashion. In answer to lquestions from the Selectmen, Town Counsel Paul DeRensis said that the DPW I [,Superintendent needed specific reasons for denial of connection applications. Since the only objection to the proposed emergency passage was the lack of preparation time, there was unanimous agreement to recess for 15 minutes so !that the Selectmen could read the proposed amendment. The meeting was recessed at 7:48 PM. The meeting was called back to order at 8:05 PM. Mr. Viera moved approval lof the proposed amendment to the Sewer Service Connection Regulation on an lemergency basis; seconded by Ms. Coombs. So voted. iMr. Viera moved to set a public hearing for July 26, 1989 at 7:30 PM; seconded iby Ms. Coombs. So voted. I ;Request for Approval of Septic System for 6 Lot Subdivision off Pocomo Road: iThiS discussion was reopened, having been tabled the previous week. Mr. Viera Iread a letter from Health Inspector Richard Ray recommending approval. Mr. Ray 'I !answered technical questions from the Selectmen. Mr. Viera moved to table lithe question until all the questions could be answered, which was estimated ! Ito be three weeks; seconded by Mr. McLaughlin. So voted. IMr. Ray reported on bacteria levels, noting that 0 to 100 was considered normal, ' i100 to 200 questionable, and above 300 polluted. He said that recent tests Ihad found Children's Beach 50, East Jetties 10, Anchorage 10, and all other Ibeaches O. Ms. Coombs asked if information was available about Pocomo Harbor. ~r. Ray said that the beaches there were not public property but that he worked fith the Woods Hole representatives there. !There being no further business before the Board of Health/Board of Public Forks, the meeting was adjOUrnit at 8:20 PM to reopen as the Board of Selectmen.
