BOARD OF HEALTH
The Minutes of the Meeting of August 17, 1988 at 7:30 PM. The Meeting
took place in the Selectmen's Hearing Room, Town and County Building,
Nantucket, MA 02554. All members of the Board were present except Mr.
Clute. Chairman Cabot opened the meeting at 7:30 PM.
Ii Mrs. Sevens motioned approval of the Minutes of August 15, 1988 at 8:30
, AM and August 3, 1988 at 7:30 PM. Seconded by Mr. Veira. So voted. It
was noted that the reading of said minutes was waived.
Variance Request from Madaket Regulations by Marilyn Burns of 64 Starbuck
Road. Mrs. Sevrens read the request from Ms. Burns. Inspector Ray was
present to explain the situation. Mrs. Sevrens asked for clarification
on leaking of septage. Inspector Ray explained this is an unusual case,
with overflow in the street. Mr. McLaughlin motioned approval. Seconded
by Mr. Viera. So voted.
Inspector Ray thanked the public for bringing in medical waste, but said
that the many "light sticks" can simply be thrown away.
Mr. Steve Scannell spoke about his arrest for trespassing and his maintenance
of ditches for mosquito control. He asked for a letter of support from
the Board in his maintenance of the Madaket ditches and the barrier at
Sesachacha Pond.
Mr. Bourgoin suggested that Mr. Clute is heading the efforts for the Town.
Mrs. Sevrens said that Mr. Scannell wanted to be arrested in his confrontation
at Sesachacha Pond. Mr. Scannell said he had talked to Mr. Clute. Chairman
Cabot asked if anyone on the Board wanted to send this letter; no one did.
Mr. Viera said studies of the ponds should go forward. Mr. Gardner said
the ponds should only be opened in the spring.
There being no further business before the Board, Chairman Cabot adjourned
the meeting at 7:53 PM to reopen as the Board of Selectmen.
