BOARD OF HEALTH
!The Minutes of the Meeting of Wednesday, June 8, 1988, at 7:30 p.m.
The Meeting took place in the Selectmen's Hearing Room, Town and
,County Building, Nantucket, MA 02554. Chairman Cabot opened the
Meeting at 7:29 p.m. Members present were Mrs. Sevrens, Mr. Viera,
and Mr. McLaughlin.
Mr. Viera moved approval of the Minutes of the Meeting of May 4, 19 8
at 7:30 p.m.: seconded by Mrs. Sevrens. So voted.
Health Inspector Ray came before the Board with a favorable recom-
mendation for the varience request of Mr. Karl Lindquist, 3 H Stree ,
Madaket. Mr. McLaughlin inquired as to the previous distance.
Mr. Ray replied that the distance was previously 15 feet closer
than before. Mr. McLaughlin moved approval of said variance reques
seconded by Mrs. Sevrens. So voted.
Inspector Ray came before the Board once again with another favorab e
recommendation for the variance request of Zimmerman/Thomas of
Monomoy. Mr. Ray commented that the septic system was improperly
installed in 1975. He added that if the variance was approved,
the leech pit would be further away from the well and they would
be able to repair the system. Mr. Viera inquired if the septic
was close to the wetlands. Mr. Ray replied that the septic was
8-10 feet and if the variance was granted it would be moved to
42 feet from the coastal bank. Mrs. Sevrens inquired the size of
the lot. Mr. Ray replied that the size of the lot was small and
that there would be no increase to the size of the house.
Mr. McLaughlin inquired as to why Town Counsel was involved. Mr. R y
replied that it was an issue of whether the septic was under the
road Mr. McLaughlin motioned to table the issue for one week for
peruasal. Mr. Ray advised the Board that the time limit for the
Conservation Commission was running out and requested they voted
on the issue in front of them. Mr. Viera inquired if the road was
a paper road. Mr. Ray replied that there was a paper road of
72 feet and that there was a dirt road on top, and that this varian e
would not affect any other lot. Mr. Ray said that he wanted
Town Counsel to~xtremely thorough which also led to the time
problem. Mr. Viera moved approval of the said request: seconded
by Mrs. Sevrens. Mr. McLaughlin stood opposed. So voted.
Under the Board of Health/Board of Public Works, Mr. Bou>>_oin
presented to the Board an agreement from Weston & Sampson regarding
the Valentine Realty Trust. Mr. Bourgoin mentioned that at a previ us
meeting, Valentine Realty Trust agreed to pay for all expenses and
that this was the final agreement. Mr. McLaughlin inquired as to
the amount of money included. Mr. Bourgoin replied that Valentine
would be paying Weston & Sampson $10,000. Mr. Viera moved approval
of the signing of the agreement: seconded by Mr. McLaughlin. So vote
Mr. Ray announced that the Health Office will not tolerate camping
in the woods of Nantucket. He also mentioned that special permits
must be granted usually only for const~ction and the site must have
hot and cold water for toilet facilities.
There being no further business before the Board of Health, Chairma
Cabot adjourned the Meeting at 7:43 p.m. to open as the Board of
Selectmen.
