The Minutes of the Meeting of Wednesday, April 20, 1988 at 7:30 p.m. The Meetin
took place in the Selectmen's Hearing Room, Town and County Building, Nantucket,
Ma. 02554. All members of the Board were present with the exception of
Mr. Clute. Chairman Cabot opened the Meeting at 7:34 p.m.
The Board discussed establishing a Public Smoking area in the Twon and County
Building. Commissioner Santos reported that any and all complaints should go
to the Health Inspector or the Building Commissioner per MGL ch. 759 ~ 22.
Mrs. Sevrens suggested that Town Hall employees caucus to get an area.
Mr. Viera stressed non-smokers rights and wondered what the guidelines were
for the designated areas. Commissioner Santos replied that the Board does not
have to designate an area and that if they designated the bathroom to smokers,
they would have to do the same for non-smokers. Mr. McLaughlin motioned that
therebe no smoking in the Town Hall except in private offices; seconded by
Mr. Viera and Chairman Cabot. Mrs. Sevrens stood opposed. So voted.
There being no further business before the Board, Chairman Cabot adjourned the
Meeting at 7:39 p.m to open as the Board of Selectmen.
