Minutes of the August 22, 1984 meeting were approved as typed and reading of the same was waived on a rrotion fran Skip Cabot, seconded by Bud Clute, so voted. -'"", Roouest for Variance from Madaket Regulations: Existing dwelling off "D" Street; Franklin Bartlett, owner: Richard L. Ray, Health Inspector reconmended granting certain variances from Sections 1 and 4 of the Madaket Regulations for the above noted property as follCMS: distance between well and leach facility 150 feet required 100 feet available distance between leach facility and property line 50 feet required 10 feet available The Health Inspector noted that "this is an existing dwelling located on an undersized lot in Madaket. Apart fran the Madaket Regulations which are unobtainable due to a restricted lot size, the proposed new system meets all requirements of Title V of the State Sanitary Code." Mrs. Sevrens asked if such a variance would in any way corrpranise the abutters' systems. Mr. Ray said that it would not. It is an improvement to the entire neighborhood. Bud Clute rroved to approve the reconmendation, seconded by Skip Cabot, so voted. Control of Children's Beach Pollution: Letter fran Superintendent of Public Works Don Oliver was read reporting that pollution from land based sources affecting Children's Beach was under control. He said much work needed to be done to corrpletely eliminate the problem including the new Lily Pond Drain as the main project. Mr. Oliver singled out Ken Kelly Marine Biologist for perfonning the necessary water testing which helPed isolate the problem corning fran land-based sources. Mr. Clute rroved to send Ken Kelly a letter of appreciation for his work on the pollution problem and to also acknCMledge Mr. Richard Ray's diligent efforts to solve the problem, seconded by Jack Gardner, so voted. The Board asked Mr. Oliver what the status of the Washington Street Beach was at this time. Mr. Oliver said that coliform levels have been dropping since boats started leaving the harbor. He believed holding tanks to be a great part of the pollution in that area. Bud Clute rroved to have Don Oliver meet with the u.S. Coast Guard, the Marine Department and the Health Department to discuss inspecting holding tanks in harbor as an anti -pollution measure with a report to the Board by the last week in November, seconded by Jack Gardner, so voted.
