The EOard of Health meeting ccmnencErl at 7:40 p.m. after a lrief meeting
of the County Carmissioners. All manl:ers were in attendance. Minutes of
the August 31, 1983 meeting ~e approved as typed and rooding of the

variance Requests from Madaket Septic systems Regulations: Existing

Inspector Ricmrd Ray reccmnending tre grant in] of tVD variances,
for tre relocation of a failErl septic systan.
Mr. Ray said that Madaket Reulation #1 states that tre distance l:Etv.een \\ell
and IOOCh facility must l:E 150 feet. Tre current distance is 46 feet, rut
will l:E expanded to 102 feet. Alro Madaket Regulation #4 re::pires that no
IOOCh facility 1:e located closer than 50 feet to a property line. OwinJ to
the size of this "p:>stage Stamp" lot (120' x 80'), it is impossible to place
a IOOCh facility on this lot and still meet the requiranents of this

Mr. GrOSEman asked Mr. Ray if this new plaCEment VDuld l:E endanJering any
one else. Mr. Ray explained trot this is an improvanent, not only for
Mr. Schnidt, rut alro the other- arutters. It definitely exceeds the state
marldates. Mr.Ray drew a diagram of the new location for the EOard.

Riclard Ray requesting trot the Board of Hmlth acknowledge and supp:>rt the
efforts of the EOard of Selectmen of Nantucket in their attanpt through
grant fuming to purcrose arutting umeveloped land adjacent to Sconset' s
v.ell field. This land ros the p:>tential for 125 new d~lings all on
underground septic systans. A h1ffer zone of undevelopej. land v.;ould ensure
the safety of the aroo v.ater quality.

Dumping of Scallop Shells: Mr. Ray rep:>rtErl trot trey rove found trash mixed
in thw shells at dumping arms. He said they will find pEOple v;ito are
in violation of the hoolth codes and if necessary will go through tre trash to
identify v;itose it is.
