HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-03-23 BOARD OF HEALTH Minutes of March 23, 1983 Meeting The Board of Health meeting commenced at 7:30 p.m. All members were present. Minutes of the March 16, 1983 meeting were accepted as typed and reading of the same was waived on motion from Bernard Grossman, seconded by Bud Clute, so voted. Subdivision Approval: 31 lots off Madaket Road abutting Long Pond: Lawrence M. Maury, owner: Letter from Health Inspector Richard Ray was read by Bernard Grossman. Mr. Ray's~ceport was as follows: 1. All lots are acceptable for septic system design. 2. I would' further request .the Board of Health recommend to the Planning Board that all septic facilities installed in this subdivision be of the leach trench configuration located as close to finish grade as Title V will permit (12 inches). This will allow the nitrates inherent in. gray water to be absorbed by the root systems of the surface vegetation as opposed to depositing said nitrates in the lower 1eves1 of biologically inactive soils as occurs with the deeper pit systems. When deep pit systems are used the nitrates are carried down through the filtering soil materials into the ground water lens. Although fractional amounts of nitrates may reach the ground water table, in Madaket's instance, these nitrates may possibly further compromise the qual ity of a fragile water lens. 3. I would also suggest the Board of Health recommend all leach facilities on Lots 22 through 41 be located on the north section of each lot in order to maximise distances between the leach facilities and Long Pond. Jack Gardner moved to approve Mr. Ray's recommendations and forward them to the Planning Board. This was seconded by Bud Clute, so voted. BOARD OF HEALTH /J /. ~/ .' ". /A-__~,.
