HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-08-10 BOARD OF HEALTH Minutes of the August 10, 1981 Meeting The meeting of the Board of Health was called to order at 4:15 p.m. by Chairman Holdgate. All members were present. I. 66 ORANGE STREET-STEPHEN RYDER, OWNER: The Board received a report from Richard L. Ray, Health Inspector, on his inspection of the dwell ing at 66 Orange Street. His report indicated that Ilmost essential facilities are non-functional and the building has been allowed to deteriorate to its present uninhabitable ,state". The Board also received a report from Bruce L. Watts, John J. Shugrue, iand Robert E. Epple (three (3) member survey board appointed by Building Inspec- tor, Norman Chaleki). Their recommendation was that the inhabitants be required :to leave immediately and that the house be boarded up to prevent unauthorized :ientry. They further recommended that if the owner does not make proper struc- Itural repairs within a reasonable amount of time, that the structure be taken !down. Mr. Stephen Ryder was in attendance and addressed the Board. Mr. Ryder !suggested the reports of the Health Inspector and the Building Inspector were [incorrect. Mr. Ray and Mr. Chaleki refuted this claim. . Based on these recommendations, Don Oliver moved that the Board vote to !condemn the structure as unfit for human inhabitation and to order that the dpremises be vacated immediately. This order would be complied with by 12 noon, '~Ugust 11, 1981 and enforced by the Nantucket Police Department. Further, it as moved that the building shall be boarded up at once and that the owner be given thirty (30) days to show that necessary major structural repairs have been 'Iundertaken and that failure to assure the Board such progress by Wednesday, September 9, 1981, shall result in the Board's ordering the demol ition of the Istructure.
