BOARD OF HEALTH
Minutes of the Meeting of July 29, 1981
The meeting of the Board of Health was called to order at 8:15 PM by
Chairman Holdgate. All members were present.
1. VARIANCE REQUEST: HAZEL HUTCHINSON The Board read a letter from Health
I Officer Richard Ray concerning the granting of variances from Title V of
the State Sanitary Code for Hazel Hutchinson, Quaise. The Board moved to
approve the variances with the condition that they are subject to the approval
of the Conservation Commission.
2. VARIANCE REQUEST: ANTHONY OSTROWSKI The Board read a letter from Health
Officer Richard Ray concerning the granting of variances from Title V of the
State Sanitary Code and from the Madaket Regulations for Anthony Ostrowski,
Madaket. The Board voted to approve the variances.
3. VARIANCE REQUEST: DURWOOD ROWLEY The Board read a letter from Health
Officer Richard Ray concerning the granting of a variance from Title V of
the State Sanitary Code and from the Town of Nantucket Madaket Regulations
for Durwood Rowley, Madaket. The Board voted to approve the variances.
The Board requested that Health Officer Ray undertake a study on the failing
septic systems in the Madaket area and inform them of the results of the
study in a month's time.
4. INSPECTION OF DWELLING AT 66 ORANGE STREET: STEPHEN RYDER
The Board read a letter from Health Officer Richard Ray concerning the
inspection of a dwelling located at 66 Orange Street, the owner being Stephen
Ryder. The Health Officer informed the Board that, in his opinion, the
house should be deemed uninhabitable as a result of its state of disrepair and
I its lack of essential utilities. Health Officer Ray included his report on
the dwelling as well as a letter from Building Inspector Norman Chaleki
I which condemned the dwelling as structurally unsafe. Health Officer Ray
recommended that the Board hand deliver through the Sheriff's Office a written
notice to the owner informing him of the Board of Health's decision that the
! dwelling was to be condemned and vacated as per article II 410.831 Subsection 1
of the State Sanitary Code. Before such orders could be issued, the Board would
be required to hold a public hearing on the dwelling, Health Officer Ray stated..
The Board voted to accept the recommendation from Health Officer Ray and to
schedule a public hearing.
The Board voted to revise posters concerning babesiosis to include information
on old Lyme disease.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:37 PM.
