HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-03-18 BOARD OF HEALTH Minutes of March 18, 1981 The Meeting of the Board of Health was called to order by Chairman Kenneth W. Holdgate, Jr., at 7:30 p.m. Board Members present: Mr. Roger Young, Mr. Jack Gardner, Mr. Walter Knott and Mr. Donald Oliver. Upon motion made by Mr. Young and seconded by Mr. Gardner, it was voted 4-0 to accept the Minutes of the Meeting of March 11, 1981, as typed and waive the reading thereof. Letter received from DEQE requesting up-date of Public Water System Listing. A motion was made by Mr. Gardner, seconded by Mr. Young to refer the matter to Health Inspector, Richard Ray. HAZARDOUS WASTE Letter was read from DPW Superintendent Clute regarding an oil spill at sewer beds. Mr. Gardner asked if oil had ever been discovered there before. Mr. Clute said no. Mr. Gardner stated that he had been out to look it over the other day, and that it looked like there were several hundred gals. still on the ground. Mr. Clute stated that he would like to excavate and fill the area with sand. A motion was made by Mr. Young, seconded by Mr. Gardner to go along with the recommendation of Mr. Clute. Mr. Holdgate asked about Sunday dumping. Mr. Clute stated there was none unless under emergency conditions. Mr. Clute noted that the Town is allowing dumping free now, when actually the Public Health Officer should be involved in the decision making about the legality of the dumping, other than regular garbage disposal. Mr. Oliver made a motion, seconded by Mr. Gardner that no dumping at the sewer bed is to be allowed without first obtaining permission from the Public Health Officer, The secretary was directed to write to letters for the Chairman's signature informing Island Excavating Co., and Ken Coffin of the decision of the Board. There being no further business before the Board, Mr. Knott made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Young, so voted 4-0. BOARD OF HEALTH )~fi~ Kenneth W. Holdgate, Jr. Chairman
