BOARD OF HEALTH
Meeting of January 28, 1981
The meeting was called to order at 7:42 p.m. by Chairman Holdgate with
Selectmen Young, Gardner, Knott and Oliver present.
Mr. Young made a motion that the minutes of the meeting of January 21,
1981, be approved as written, Mr. Knott seconded the motion, so voted
4-0.
Letter was read from Richard Ray with a request to attend the monthly
meeting of the Cape and Islands EMS and close his office for the time
required to attend. Mr. Young made a motion to approve, Mr. Knott
seconded it, so voted 4-0.
. Mr. Ray made an oral presentation on water quality tests in the shellfish
i areas, noting that the break occurred January 9 at 5 a.m. and was repaired
by 5 p.m. Further that approximately 500,000 gallons of sewer flowed into
the Harbor intermittently, noting that half of the discharge was on an
outgoing tide. Mr. Ray stated that he had taken samples at BranJt Point,
150 feet into the Town Pier and at Pinney Point on January 21 and 22 with
only Bran4t Point slightly over the danger level.

He also wrote requesting that the ban be lifted by the EQDE, sending the
results of his testing. To date, he has had no response. He also spoke
with John Mendes at the Marine Fisheries this date, who notified him that
the ban did not effect scallops since only the muscle of the scallop was
consumed. Mr. Ray notified the Board at this time that Mr. Mendes had
called him back today to notify him that he was writing to have the ban
removed.
Mr. Holdgate asked if the local Board could vote to remove the ban? Mr.
Ray stated they could not.
Mr. Holdgate asked if there were any other matters before the Board from
the floor. There were none.
Mr. Holdgate thanked Mr. Ray for his presentation and the meeting was
adjourned by agreement at 7:48 p.m.
