BOARD OF HEALTH
February 5, 1975
VARIANCE - RICHARD CORKISH, Sr.
Board granted variance for repair and expansion of existing disposal system
for Richard Corkish, Sr. at Madaket.
February 12, 1975
SUBDIVISION - WESLEY AND MARY SIMMONS
Board accepted report of Inspector of Health Purdy, which showed no objections
to the proposed subdivision plans requested by Wesley and Mary Simmons.
There was also an evaluation by Mr. Jones which stated uncertainty as to whether
any structure on parcel 3 could be connected to existing North Liberty sewer.
An approximate check with hand level indicated the ground is too low and that
fill to increase elevation or a sewage ejector would be required.

VARIANCE - MRS. LEEDS MITCHELL

of Inspector of Health Purdy, since there were no objections, for Mrs. Leeds
Mitchell of Polpis.
MARCH 12, 1975

Board received evaluation from Inspector of Health Purdy and Supt. Robert Jones
pertaining to request for a 5-lot subdivision at Cliff Road and Highland Avenue
for Sidney H. and Ann S. Killen. Board of Health accepted reports.
March 19, 1975
VARIANCE - BERTHA ARNOLD
A letter from Carl Borchert requested a variance for repair and expansion of
existing disposal system for Bertha Arnold. Lloyd Arnold spoke on behalf of
his Mother's plan. Evaluation from Inspector of Health Purdy indicated no
objections, but Board questioned the fact that there are 2 lots involved and,
in the absence of Mr. Purdy, tabled the matter until further discussion could
be held with him.
March 26, 1975
Further discussion of the above variance was held, with Mr. Lloyd Arnold in
attendance, informing the Board that this variance would be an improvement in
distance from abutters and that it would mean hooking 2 houses on 1 system.
Inspector of Health Purdy added that the design is good and that they would
go from a 500 gallon to a 1000 gallon tank. Miss Gibbs said that she felt
personally the Madaket regulations were made because of necessity and exception
should not be made to them in fairness to others who have similar problems.
Selectman Gardner said there are as many as 5 on one system at Tristam's Landin,
but it is not permitted to sell any part. After more discussion, Selectman
Gardner made a motion to approve this variance, but there was no second and the
motion was not carried. Mr. Arnold asked if he could appeal this decision and
was informed by Chairman Haley that he could. Miss Gibbs added she did not
like to see any individual hurt, but that if exceptions were made the study of
the Madaket area might as well not have been done.
