SIASCONSPJI' DUMP
Mr. Jesse KLdridge inquired if the road from the 'Sconset Dump to the Loran
Station could be opened. It had been closed and roads blocked when the dump
was closed. This past winter, he said a large hole had been bulldozed there.
He inquired why the DPI was doing :this work on a road that had been constructed
there and why it had not been put out to bids. Mr. Jones replied that the DPI
was doing the work to save money and that the road had been clo$ed at the
request of'the Conservation Founaation. He fUrther stated that, if the Commiss..
ion agreed, it could be opened up. He said they had compacted there and reclaimei
material for cover. After they truck the additional which is needed, the job
is finished.
WATER RESOURCES -STUDY
Marie Giffin inquired about the status of the water resources study in Madaket.
Mr. Jones informed the meeting that Mr. Bucknam of Whitman and Howard hoped to
have information by next week.
SANITAJI'f LANDFILL
Mr. Jones presented the Board with several rules and regulations to be put into
effect regarding the sanitary landfill and also the hours proposed for keeping
the landfill open to the collectors and public. Mr. M. Francis Dias asked if
the hours could be extended, as it did not give those using the landfilr enough
time durb.g the day. Mr. Jones responded that the hours had to be controlled
in accordance with state requirements. Also, safety regulations require two men
to be present. After much discussion of the needs of the truckers, it was
agreed to have the hours 7 A.M. - 6 P.M. Monday through Friday, with Saturday
. and Sunday to remain as scheduled for the month of May only. There was much
I discussion about the cause of the scattering of papers and other debris and
I the suggestion that plastic bags be required or that papers be wrapped with
i twine was thought to be the best wa::r of controlling the problem. Selectman
Gardner also noted that the material is not being covered because the operators
put equipment away ~ hour prior to closing time and last loads are not cOvered.
There was discussion of recall of keys to control access to the landfill, as
more stringent requirements have to be met in regard to having operators on
hand when loads are brought out. These and other factors which must be complied
with in order not to be in violation were discussed later in more detail with
Mr. Jones and the Board.
