Minutes of a meeting of the Board of Appeals held August 16,
1978, adjourned from August 15, 1978: Present were members Mrs.
Bartsch, Mr. Hyde, and Mr. Holmes.
In the matter of the petition of Francis and Dorothy McGarvey
(019-78): Mr. Francis McGarvey appeared and stated the petitioner
own property on Milestone Road just before the 'Sconset Water De-
partment property. The property is improved with three houses and
a commercial unit now used as a beauty parlor. The petitioners
want to change the use of the commercial until from a beauty par-
lor to a book store featuring religious books and periodicals.
The area is a neighborhood of primarily vacant land with an
immediate abut tor to the east utilizing property as a lawn and gar-
den supply center. The area to the west, north, and south is va-
cant land.
There were no other speakers, and no correspondence was re-
ceived.
After due deliberation the Board found:
1. The use proposed by the petitioners is a use permitted by
special permit; and,
2. The proposed use can be maintained in the area without
any adverse effect on the general area.
On motion by Mr. Hyde, seconded by Mrs. Bartsch, it was unani
mously voted to grant the special permit subject to the following
condi tions :
1. The hours of operation shall be not greater than from
9:00 A. M. to 8:00 P. M. each day; and,
2. The petitioners may have one sign at the roadside adver-
tising the business.
