In the matter oJ the 'petition of Nantucket Electric Company (002-77): At torney Richard GI'i~den appeared for the petitioner. He stated the ~etitioner owns Lots 1, 3, and 4 as shown on L. C. Plan No. 8580 and L. C. Plan No. 8904 situated on Whale Street. The pt'incipal plant of the petitioner is located on Lots 1 and 4. An " addition of 24' x 68' is required to house new generators to sup- ~ll~inont tlw main plant equipment. The addition is to be placed on the easterly side of the building and at the southerly end. The lot is R(~~jde'1tial-COlIlmerical allowing 50% ground' cover. The lot area l~ 17,836 sq. ft. with an existing puilding utilizing l:~, 319 sq. It. for a groilnd eover of 78%. The proposed .addi tion will bring the ground cover to 14,975 sq. ft. or 84%. The new generator is-absolutely required to supplement the (~xisting operation of the Nantucket Electric Company. There is no alternative to placement since the main plant is in this location, and the addition must be plaeud here as well. The area surl'uunding,the plant is generally commercial with a few residential units 16cated on Washington Street. Immedi~te abutters include the boat basin stores, Island Motors, Inc., and several commeicial ent~rprise~. , These properties are generally oc-' cupying 80% to 90% groun~-cover. , The addition will be of masonary construction, one story, 24' I high, and will be used solely to house the new generator. Mr. Robert Congdon 'spoke in favor of the petition stating there is no alternative to this addition. After due deliberation, the Board found: the use presonts a situation whereby the owner is unable to offer any alternative and adopi'~ny other solution. 2.
