NOTICE
A Public Hearing of the NANTUCKET WNING BOARD OF APPEALS will be held
at 1:00 P.M., FRIDAY, JANUARY 11, 2002, IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM,
TOWN ANNEX BUILDING, 37 Washington Street, Nantucket, Massachusetts, on the
Application of the following:
FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF NANTUCKET
BOARD OF APPEALS FILE NO. 005-02
Applicant is seeking relief by SPECIAL PERMIT under Nantucket Zoning Bylaw
Section 139-33A (alteration/expansion ofa pre-existing nonconforming use/structure).
Applicant proposes to alter a said to be pre-existing nonconforming structure, a church,
by constructing an addition onto the rear of the northerly portion of the structure that
would extend in a westerly direction. The new about 281 square-foot addition, to provide
expanded office space, would not come any closer to the northerly side yard lot line than
the existing structure, which is sited as close as about 1.1 feet from that lot line in a
district that requires a minimum of five (5) feet. A majority of the addition would be sited
outside of the required side yard setback area. The Locus would continue to meet the
minimum lot size and ground cover requirements. To the extent necessary, Applicant is
also seeking reliefby SPECIAL PERMIT under Nantucket Zoning Bylaw Section 139-
18 (parking Requirements), in order to waive any additional parking spaces required as a
result of the increase in ground cover. No other changes are planned for the structure
under this Application. See also BOA File No. 010-95, a portion of which permitted use
was completed. However, the portion of the project that was similar in nature to the
above requested relief, though also granted, was never completed and relief has argu~
