HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-11-29 Minutes of the Advisory Committee of Non .voting Taxpayers of Nantucket. Friday, November 29. The subject meeting was called and noticed by Tom Barrows acting as convenor, Eight of the thir- teen persons appointed by the Selectmen had been sworn by that date so the five persons present formed a quorum of Robert Ames, Thomas Barrows, Phillip Chomo, Robert Landman, and Donald M, VanGreenby. Mr. Barrows, Mr. VanGreenby, and Mr. Ames were elected as Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary respectively. Mr. VanGreenby voluntered to contact Ms. Libby Oldham in order to request a small budget and some help in preparing communications for the Committee. Mr. Barrows will find out how we can regularly receive minutes of meetings that we need to monitor here. We believe that we can not possibly attend even a small sampling of the meetings that may be important. We agreed that certain topics need our study and that our role of advising the Town of non-voting taxpayer concerns is important with regard to them: 1. Master Plan Development. Our constituency turned out in great numbers for the summer meetings on this topic. Most of the substance of the plan is being developed in their absence. We are acutely aware of our responsibility to inform Nantucket of the perspectives of a group that represents a very large majority of property ownership on the island. 2. Growth Data. A large number of persons are concerned with limiting growth on the island. More current data on growth rates should be made available. Other topics and issues will recommend themselves. A meeting will be scheduled in late winter or early spring. All persons appointed by the Selectmen will be asked to come to the Island to be sworn and to join the Committee.
