Minutes of the Meeting oftheAdvisory Committee of Non-Voting Taxpayers.
Nantucket. Thursday, July the First. 1997.
The meeting was called to order at 2pm by Chairman Thomas Barrows. Six members
were present: John Barney, Thomas Barrows, Howard N. Blitman, Louis Bassano,
Trig Cooley, and Donald M. VanGreenby. The Minutes of November 29, 1996 were
approved unanimously.
Several topics were discussed:
1. ACNVT used its advisory powers to speak out at the Town Meeting in favor of the
Master Plan effort. Perhaps we should lend this same voice to other nonprofits and civic
associations that seek recognition or the attention of Nantucket's government. We will
certainly seek broader representation on the 1vlaster Plan Steering Committee too.
2. There is much interest and concern over attempts to save and improve Nantucket's
harbors beaches, and tidal wetlands. We will contact the committee that is pursuing
Maurice Gibb's excellent report and will see how we can help.
3. Steamship Authority phone reservation service was criticised. This may have been part
of the major service glitch that accompanied a new untried computer system. Things seem
more normal now.
4. It was suggested that conservation associations might attend to dead trees that seem
unsightly along Nantucket's roads.
We will try to have two more meetings this Summer. Please phone Tom Barrows (228-
3610) with times and days of the week when you are available. We will try to accomodate
as many as can fit one or maybe two dates. Please call soon.
