TOWN BUILDING CONFERENCE ROOM MINUTES OF JULY tt, 200t MEETING 1. The first meeting of the FY2002 ACNVT was convened by the Town Administrator Libby Gibson. Also present, 5 of the 9 appointees: Roger Ernst, Suzanne Mueller, Ellen Roman, Bill Sherman, and Terry Sutphen, a quorum. (See attached for list of members with phone & email.) 2. Nominated and elected as ACNVT officers were Chairman Roger Ernst, Vice Chairman Howard Blitman (elected in absentia) and Secretary Bill Sherman. The two present indicated willingness to step down if, during the year ahead, the full Committee showed interest in electing others. 3. Preference was indicated for meeting on Fridays, with off-season schedule conformed to Land Council meetings if convenient to the full membership. Since the Town Building conference room is committed Friday mornings, the next meeting there was set for Friday, July 21st at 2 p.m. The Vice-Chair is expected to conduct the meeting in the absence of the Chair that day. The ACNVT Secretary is to arrange for proper posting of meetings and marking the calendar in the Selectmen's office for use of the Town Building conference room. 4. To comply with the spirit of the Open Meeting Law, an off-season meeting might be preceded by email exchanges and then conducted as a brief phone-conference. At least one committee member participating in the phone conference would be located at an on-island site accessible to the public and identified in a timely posting of the meeting through the Town Clerk's office. 5. Ellen Roman volunteered to consider the existing ACNVT mission statement and, if thought appropriate, to propose at the next meeting an updated version. 6. Ideas were shared about topics and resources (e.g., Town department heads, selectmen) for future meetings. Those present thought the emphasis of the ACNVT should be on positive contributions by summer residents in discussing and dealing with island issues, not e.g. gripes about tax burdens on non-residents, lack of a Nantucket vote, or limitation at Town Meetings to one representative speaking on behalf of summer residents. Besides advising the selectmen, the ACNVT might send PR to the I&M.
