-Town.Warrant~#42 in th~ amount ~f'$6016.82 was presented ~an~
aPproved by the Board.
· Nr. Lombard sent a lebter to the Board requesting that
Wal~ Street be re-n~mbered. It wa~ ~eferred.
The American Legion was granted permissi~ to solicit poppie
on November 6, 1948.
Harold Anderson sent a letter tO the Board requesting per-
mission to erect a two-car garage-apartment~at ~ West~ Silver
Street. Voted to send him a form to be signed by Chief of the
Fire Department.
Letters of thanks were received from Mr~ William Voorneveld
~nd Mr. J. R. Parker acknowledging the fact that they were
members of the TreeCommission.
The Nantucket council of churches sent a co.~munication to
the Board regarding the sale of cigarettes and a~coholic bev-
erages to minors. The letter was turned over to the Chief of
Police.
Mr. Irvin M. Wyer sent an application to the Board, which
had been signed by Chief of the Fire Department, ~applying for
a license to erect a two car garage on North Center Street.
Voted that same be granted.
The Registr~ o~f Motor Vehicles sent a letter with applicati~
blanks for registration of,' trucks at the Nantucket Fire Depart.
ment. Voted that same be turned over to Chief of Fire Depart-
ment.
~r. Wilson H. Cash, Board'of Public Welfare, ~stated in a
letter to the Board that three more fire extinguishers were
needed for the first and second floors of the Island Home.
Voted that Mr. Cash be authorized to take care of same.
The ~aPplication~f~om the New England Telephone and' Telegrap~
Company to erect and maintain one joint pole on Twin Street
between Pine and Lyon~~ Streets was carried over for a hearing on
October 2~, 194~ at ~:00 P.M. ~
The American Legion and Veterans'~ ,of~For~ign Wars sent a
letter to the Board requesting that ,the Town Bells toll on
November 11' from 10:55 A~ M. to 11:05 A. M.' Voted to notify
Mrj~ Jay Gib~s ~to carry out instructions for same.
,: It was voted to instruct the Wannacomet~ Wa~er' Company to
move the fire plug at the turn of~ Francis and Washington Streel
so that the turn could be widened.
.!. A~ cg~plaint was ~eceived from Mr. Andrew Lewis stating that
young boys had been doing~considerable damage at the dump.
Board voted that Police~ be instructed to inspect the same.
A communication was received from Mr. Leroy Pease~ of the
Veterans' Housing Authority stating that Mr. Walter-Royal and
Mr. Roy' Sanguinetti were resigning and that Colonel Ticknor,
be suggested to Governor Bradford in the place of Mr.~ Royal.
Mr~ase also' suggested, ~that Mr. John Hardy be appointed in
the p~la~,c~e of Mr. S~nguinetti.I Voted that same be complied~ wit~
~ Mr~ Russell Pope r~sted permission for Mrs~Smith to
remove a maple tree from the corner of her property and replac~
it with another tree.. ~Voted that same' be turned over to the
Tree Commission. ~
Er. Russell ~pe als~ requested permission to Cut.the dead
wood,off of trees in front of.Mr. Crosby's property on Orange
Street. So Voted, that this al~ be turned over to the Tree
