It was felt that boats could anchor anywhere in the hatbox'except in~.the'channel. It was voted to have ~1r. Blount open Sachacha Pond by whoever he could employ for the job. ~ ~Mr. Kent King and~Gi~b~rt Wyer conferred with'the Board in con~ection with the.r~fuse on the Beachs. Mr. ~!yer stated that he would be willing to use his truck and the Boys Club and try and conduct a clean up drive~ It was voted to authorize the~Boays Club to clean up the beaches and reimburse Mr. Wyer for the gas used in his truch for the purpose. Mr. Tice conferred with the Board in connection with the ~petition received from the residents of Hinckley Lane~~ that the road be graded and drained, but not paved. He also requested that the Town despose of an old truck and grader that wa~e of no further use to him. Warrant #2~ in the ammount of 32,294.18-was approved. On the motion of Mr. Coffin it was vote'd to have Mr. Tice ~ place "Dangerous Curve" signs mt Bean Hill on the Siasconset Road and the junction of the Polpis and Wauwinet Roads. The ~neriaan'Legion was granded a permit to set up a table on Main St. at various times during the summer in connection with their drive for funds. It was voted to request Everett Backus to repair the fence on the Old South Cemetery. ~ A contract was signed with the State covering the maintanence of 33,386 Ft. of Chapter 90 S~te Roads. A letter was~received from Mr. Barnes enclosing copies of Chapter 405 covering the Tree Commission Bill and also copies of the Veterans Housing Legislation~ it was voted to'refer to the Police Dept a complaint from Marjorie Hull concerning all night beach parties at Surf Side. Mr. Merlin Crocker was'appointed~a Special police officer with jurisdiction over the comfort station only. Ralph Pierce, James Wharem, Carlos Grangrade,~'~'ud Freeman Dawrence were appointed to the V.F.W. Special Patroz to replace Richard V~heldon, Earl Ray, R. P. Grimes and John Keating. On the petiti~nof the Taxi drivers is was voted to establish a two taxi'stand on the west side of Federal and Main Sts. and a one taxi stand on the East side. It was voted to extend'the completion date on the Turner & Br&ivogel Contract on Old South Road to July 15th. it was voted to request iirs. Grimes to attend a Welfare ~eeting in New Bedford'on'July 'Mr. Lawrence ~il~er wrote offering free to'the Tov~various ~arcels oi° land for the Veterans Housing project only, which was very much appreciated. We were advised'that the~State Housing Board had appointe5 Walter Royal as their representative on t~e local Housing Authority. A petition was re~ceived'from residents of Brant Point requesting the County to lay_out and accept the road from easton Street to the Light House on the Point. The meeting adjourned at 10;10 p,m. The K. of C. was granted a permit to hold a carnival Aug. & 18 on the Sandford property f6r the benefit of St. ~arys Church. The complain~ of the methods used to grab passengers for the sightseeing busses was tabled for a week. A complaint was received from the Nantucket Council of C~urches about sale of cigaretts and licquor to minors. It was voted to request more specific information. The request of the Police Dept for three weeks vacation for members with over l0 years service was tabled for a week. It was voted to request Mr. Orpin, Mgr. Wannacomet Water Co. to consult with the Board in connection with Hydrant to Barnes property. ~r. Elmore Taylor was ~ranted a~permit to erect a staging on Liberty St. at Methodist Church. The whale on the beach was discussed and Mr~ Soverino requested to see if he could locate~ a fisherman that would try to pull it off the beach. '~ ~A complaint received in reference to Esau horse was refered to Ernest Lema. The Stetson House was granted an Innholder license. A'permit'~as grahted Emly L~ Hoffmeier to hold the sidewalk Art Show on Federal Street Aug, 16, 1V & 18 and use basement for storage. It wa's voted ,to request the"Ctvic LeagUe to give to the Bo~ Club the ~50.00 voted for rubbish~barrels. It was V~ted to accept the ~esign~tton of Mr. Everett V. Lamb.
