~ ~,~r. Blount reported that 228 bu.' of oysters had ~been moved
in.'~t was voted to'pay $~5 a bu.' fo~ starfish~and~conchs. Mr.
Blount was authorized to ~buy 100 bags at a cost not to exceed
15~ each.
Mr. Blount stated that the Baptist"CHur'ch would like ~to
buy or borrow 10 kindergarden chairs owned by the town, but not
being used. !t was voted to lend the chairs for a period of one
year.
It was voted to request the Dept. of Conservation to ship
200 bu. of seed clams an5 200 bu.'of seed quahaugs,, 50 bu. of
each at a time interval of one week; Also short lobsters and
flounder fry.
Mr. Martin reported on condition of bathing beach houses,
stating the roof neede~ repairing and some windows replased.
As it was 5ificult to find anyone to do the work, Mr. Coffin
agreed ~tnspect the roof an5 offer suggestions on how to repair
it.
~,.!r. Chase gave the board thee route'of their mid day bus
trip, stating that the trip had been shortened' in o~der to
allow passengers of the Hyannis Boat a little more time in
town. It was later voted to allow this change subject to D. P.
approval and that the route of the 9;30 A.M. and 3;00 P.~.~.
be also submitted to the D. P. U.
A letter was received from ~r. Harps granting permission
to open Sachacha Pond through his property and it was voted
a letter of appreciation be sent to ~r. Harps·
A letter was received foom the Dept. of~Conservati0n
approving the appointment of,~r. Frank B. Gardner as Moth
Superintendent. . ~
A permit was granted Huram Macy to erect a staging at
Ger2ie Dunham's house &n Main Street.
A Permit was granted the V. F. W.' Post and Aux.~to hold a
public supper,, penny. Sale and Dance on Monday April 19, 1948.
A permit was~granted SeSdon W.' Legg to move two-small
builSing~.from[0range Street to the Hummock Pond Road.
~'/ Eldrid Gardner was appointed a Special P'olice 0ffics to
serve~without pay. ~ _
~ ~ 'A~letter wa~'~eceived from Mr.'Le0nar~ A Block, statinE
that he didnt plan to use the land occupied by the Siasconset
Playground for some time and'had no objection to its continued
use as a'playground. He felt, however, that the taxes should~
be rebated.'It was v6ted to refer this letter to the Town Coun-
sel. Mr Coffim stated that he felt~the present'location of~ -
the playground on the State Road very dangerous, and suggested
moving it ~own by the beach, but no action was taken. ~
A letter was received from the ~lbert.G. Brock Co.,
& Coleman an~ Howard W. Hull-Agency statio~ that they had had ~
the town Buildings appraised and checked. The letter listed the
amount'.of insurance necessary to be carried on each building in
Order to compl~w%th~the 80% co-insurance~clause which totaled
$62V,000. This Compares with $608,350 which was covered by a
temporary rider on March~12th and $376,350 previously carried.
It was voted to instruct the Agents to write the insurance in
the smount of $62V,000 as suggested in their letter of April V.
It was voted to ask Charles Thurston, Matthew Jaeckle a~d
Nan. Construction_Co. for estimates on cutting an opening at
Sachacha Pond Approx. 15 ft wide and 2 ft. below pomd water

.The Secretary was requested.to write the F~re'Chief a~k
him to inspect the old tar pit on the Siasconset Road to see
if the rubbish dumped there could'not be burned.
~arranb No.'14 in the 'amount of $~,~98.96 was aooroved 'and
bills ordered paid.
~A.letter was received from Mr. SangUinetti, stating that
he had confered with Mr. Millard, Attorney for the Dept; of
Conservation. It'was Mr.WillardSs opinion that the Chatham Bedd
'opening could only be accomplished by an enabling act of the
Legislature.
~ ' Mr. Ro~ger Dunhhm rep~rted'-to the Board stating be'had
talked with the Captain of the survey boat that came in the
harbor. It was the Captains opinion that the shoal off Coatue.
would prevent the opening from m6ving up or down Coatue and slsc
_prevent a shift of sand closing-it.
" Mr. Todd felt that the'approVal 'of ~he Dept"of Public Works
an8 U. S. Engineers should be ootained f~rst in order t9 ~ete~i
the size of the opening and a better estimate of its cost.
After some discussion it was.voted to request the Tow
Counsel to 6raw up the enabling Act and the Secretary to write
the. Depts of Conservation and Public Works for expressions of
their approval as an aid to getting the act through the.Legis-
lature.
A letter was received 'from Rowland A. Kenyon"jr. ~tateing
that'mhis.daughter w~s confined in the Children's Hospital
Boston, with Tuberculous Meningitis; and since the expiration
of his Blue Cross insurance he was unable to meet the h&spital
bills and~his daughter w~s too 'sick to.be brought'home. It was
.voted that the Tovm'of Nantucket would'assume'the financial
obligation lot the care snd treatment of Elizabeth Ann Eenyon
after the expiration of the Blue Cross ~nsurance..
It was Vot~d'.to gr~nt Dr. E01ger permission to establish
an Immunizing Clinic.~ . ,

t,~r. Olidden'reported that N~s. ESha' May wished 'to cha~ge
t0 an All'Alcoholic.license." The Secretary was requested.to
send her-a new form'and ask her to write the Board requesting
permission to withdraw her previous application for a Wine and
!~alt license.
