'As there Were a'number of imPortant-developments during the , ' week on the Chatham Bend opening the Secretary of that Committee Chatham B~ was so informed and all ~emberts of the Chatham .Bend Committee Bend were present. The legal aspects~of the situation were discussed at some length and the opinion of the Town Counsel was that the appropia tion of money for the~taking of land required a two thirds vote of a Town ~eeting. As the vote on Article ~0 had not been counted it was'generall~ agreed that a special To~,m ~eeting would be necessary. A letter from ~.!r. Gardner Russell stated that an examination of Chapter 40'of the General Laws led him to believe that the appropriations under Articles 49 and 50 were without legal authority. ~r. Todd felt this possibility should be carefully considered before the money was spent~in order to insure that no legal action could be taken against the Board ~fter the opening was made. A letter form~'~r. Bassett Jones was read ~ It was then voted that the Boar~ confer with ~,~r. Sanguinetti at 1:00 P. N. April let for further legal advise. Er. Blount reported that 91 bu. of oysters had been put in Oysters shallow water.~As there was evidence that the oysters were being attacked by some borer it was voted to move the whole bed into shallow water and advertise in the papers that more oysters were availible to the public. The Red ~en were granted a permit to hold a parade on Sat Red ~gen night Apr. ~rd. Parade ~r. Nathan Thurston informed the Board that'if he were N. Thur~' appointed garbage collector he would bury it,on'some land he owned in Surf Side. He felt only one Garbage Collector should be appointed. ~r. J. Towhill requested a renewal of his permit to operate Towhill a Bus Line. As he planned to make some changes in his schedule ~he was requested to submit his application in writing together with the new schedule. Hr. Tice was pre~ent to thank the Board for his reappo~nt- ment as Superintendent of Streets. ~ Er. Leon Royal reported that some used lumber he had Royal ~ stored on his.property on Derrymore Road had been taken by l,ir. vs. Everett Lamb and used as fire wood. The Board later deeided it Lamb would call in Mr. Lamb and~get his side of the story.' '.It was voted that the application of Edna' May, Proprietor ~lcoholi~ of Driftwood Siasconset for a renewal of her seasonal ~ine end ~ale Beverage license take the usual course prescribed by law. License The Secretary w~s requested to assertain the owner of the Sachacha land at Sachacha Pond and obtain permission to cut an opening, as a letter had been received from the Dept. of Conservation Opening approving the opening. It was voted to instruct Rep. Barnes t~ support Bill 1060 permitting Toy, s to use surplus~ funds to reduce the tax rate. The Board appointed the following as members of the Amer. Fr~e'and.Miss Cora stevens were 'aPPointed to serve on the High School Auditorium Committee as provided for 'in Article 64. The Secretary was,instructed to request the Nan. Gas & Elec.~ CO. to install a~street light at Bunker Hill Siasconset and on the North(side of, Cherry Street near the'K.'of C.J~Hall.
